The much-hyped trailer for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie is finally out today. Based on the wildly popular Fifty Shades trilogy, the first movie has a lot to live up to. There are millions of minds out there that all have their own version of how the story plays out.
I’m happy with the casting of Jamie Dornan as Christian and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia. He’s hot (even though I’d like to see him with a better haircut…) and she’s understatedly gorgeous.
Here’s a shot of the duo on the November 22, 2013 cover of Entertainment Weekly. They did a good job of capturing the essence of the first book in this image. (His hair is better here, too.)
I’ve watched the trailer a few times (you know, for research…) and I see something different each time. The more I watch it, the more impressed I am. They seem to have captured the nuances of the story and relationship well. My first reaction was there didn’t seem to be much chemistry between the characters, but I was reminded that Christian is detached and cold in the first book, and Anastasia is inexperienced, shy – even scared – and unacquainted with the world of sex, let alone the world Christian inhabits. I watched the trailer again and I see much more between them now. There’s a magnetism – a heat, but a cold heat. And that’s perfect for this story.
There is a lot going on below the surface. A lot to be read in their eyes. Anastasia’s aroused, yet cautious, curiosity. Christian’s “what the hell do you do to me, Ana?!” look. They’re both going through an awakening and we get to come along on the hot ride.
I’ll be honest. The trailer turned me on. The way he pins her arms above her head in the elevator. The first peek we get at the Red Room – the blindfold, the crop, the rope, and oh, that part gasp, part moan she does at the end… Oh, excuse me… Where were we…?
Oh yes… The trailer. This first trailer does its job. I also really enjoyed the version of Crazy in Love that builds throughout. It’s getting me excited for the movie. I’m also keyed up the BDSM world is getting a bit of mainstream play. We’ll see how this kind of kink is portrayed when the flick comes out. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t holding out a lot of hope for the movie. Now? I’ve changed my mind. I can’t wait to see the full movie. And here’s hoping the movie stays true to the essence of their relationship and is able to convey that on screen.
Fifty Shades, you’ve whet my appetite. Now can you satiate me? We’ll see this February. Such a long time to wait! What a tease….
What are your thoughts? We’d LOVE to hear from you!
